Maren Engel is a nurse and teacher for nursing. After her education in 1993, she worked for 16 years in clinical care. Most of the time she worked in the department of cardiac and thoracic surgery, Intensive Care Unit of the German Heart Center, Berlin, where she completed her profession as a nurse in anesthesia and intensive medicine with an examination in the year 2000. 2002 she began her studies for nursing science and education in the faculty of Charite University medicine of the Humboldt University of Berlin and received her diploma in 2008. Her final thesis in nursing science included the results of a clinical research about assessment for the risk of oral bacteremia in intensive care patients.
From 2009 until 2014 she worked as a teacher after what she joined the research team of Dr. Andrej Trampuz because of her interests in hygiene and infections.
