Our on-site workshops on the Management of Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI) provide up-to-date information and a practical approach to manage periprosthetic joint infection successfully. We cover prevention, diagnosis and combined (medical and surgical) treatment, with particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary approach and efficient modern concepts. The courses are a mix of lectures by expert scientists in the domain, interactive case discussion and practical (hands-on) workshops. Approved with 12 CME credits by the Medical Chamber Berlin and applied for approval by Ethical MedTech.

Prof Olivier Borens, MD
When Andrej and myself realized in 2009 that only teamwork was leading to successful treatment in orthopaedic infections, it was clear to us, that we had to organize workshops for ID specialists and orthopaedic surgeons. The goal was to bring ID-Ortho “Couples” from the same hospital together in a group learning experience with lots of case discussions and interactive teaching combined with modern diagnostic and treatment concepts. We wanted the surgeon to understand the ID view of the situation and vice versa. Since our first workshop in Lausanne, Switzerland these “happenings” have spread all over the world under the patronage of PRO-IMPLANT and continue to be a huge success. Every time I have had the chance to participate I have learned so much from the faculty but even more from the participants. For physicians of any speciality interested in orthopaedic infections this workshops are a must.

I was pleased to assist the PJI workshop of Dr. Trampuz in December 2019 in Berlin. The workshop consisted of many interesting presentations of Dr. Trampuz himself, but also other experts of the field. Diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms were discussed; with some exciting case-reports. The participants could actively discuss some of their own cases and interchange expert knowledge from different point of views (infectious and surgical ones). The PJI workshop was completed with a fancy dinner in Berlin city. I can only recommend this workshop, which is not only very informative, but also entertaining to take part in.

Assist Prof Rihard Trebše
There is not a lot of strong evidence in the field of PJI. Therefore it is only possible to base the treatment on expert opinion. Proimplant workshop is a one of a kind event. Being several times present as a faculty I realized the importance of a school of thought. The workshop presents a coherent overview of diagnostics and treatment of PJI based as much as possible on evidence and filling the gaps with expert opinions provided by specialists predominantly focused on PJI. It provides knowledge based on the legacy of more than 30 years of research in the field. Every single detail in the process of PJI evaluation and treatment has been challenged multiple times resulting in a very considered presentations. It is certainly a must for everybody involved in PJI to attend it at least once yearly to remain up to date to be able to provide the best for her patients.

Prof Werner Zimmerli, MD
As a regular speaker at PJI-workshops of the PRO-IMPLANT Foundation, I enjoy the lively discussions as much as the participants do. The format of these workshops is ideal, because participants have many different professions and come from many different countries and even continents. This mixed audience with experience in very different fields guarantees the lack of dogmas and prejudices in the interactions.

The Workshops provide an excellent opportunity to exchange experience from different specialists through the discussion of clinical cases and practical sessions. This is a good example of multidisciplinary medicine, an integrated team approach, which improves not only the patient’s outcome, but also optimizes the team’s performance.
